MARYSVILLE — A family of four had to move out of their home Thursday night because of smoke damage to the structure in the 220 block of 172nd Street NW, officials said.
The fire was reported around 8:30 p.m., Marysville Fire District spokeswoman Kristen Thorstenson said.
Fire crews were able to contain the blaze to the garage, but the house sustained substantial smoke damage, Thorstenson said. Crews from Arlington and Stanwood assisted.
A stretch of 172nd Street was closed for two hours.
“They had just finished moving in,” Thorstenson said.
The last load was in the van in the front yard.
One of the family’s two cats was given oxygen and taken to a veterinarian for observation.
The other ran off.
The family has insurance and will be staying with family. The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.
Damage is estimated around $150,000, Thorstenson said.
The fire started in the fireplace area of the garage.
There were no injuries.
