MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — A fire started by a barbecue that spread to the deck of a home in Mountlake Terrace on Saturday morning caused more than $7,000 in damage.
The fire broke out about 10:45 a.m. at a home in the 7200 block of 116th Place SW. Several people were in the home but they all were able to leave and none were injured, said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1.
The fire did not damage the house itself, she said. The blaze was brought under control in less than 10 minutes.
A man who lived in the home told firefighters he lit the barbecue on the back deck to cook lunch, then went back in the house. When he returned to the deck a few minutes later, the barbecue was on fire, destroying a gazebo and patio furniture.
