Free help for Boeing job-seekers
Getting an aerospace job in Snohomish County just got a little easier.
WorkSource is hosting free workshops to help people apply for work at the Boeing Co., Snohomish County's largest employer.
"For every 100 applicants, Boeing screens out about 75 of them, often because they didn't know how to accurately describe their skills," said Paul Trause, commissioner for the state's Employment Security Department.
Boeing-trained job coaches will be on hand to help job seekers navigate through Boeing's hiring process. Job applicants will get assistance with their resumes and interview skills.
"WorkSource is turning that trend around by teaching job seekers how to develop resumes and applications that get screeners' attention," Trause said.
The next aerospace workshop orientation session for job seekers will be from 1 to 4 p.m. April 15 at Everett WorkSource, 3201 Smith Ave., Suite 413, in Everett.
Similar workshops will be held every other week at WorkSource centers in Tacoma and Mount Vernon.
Everett WorkSource has already helped about 250 people find aerospace jobs. The applicants had previously applied at Boeing but hadn't gotten a response.
Boeing has been ramping up jet production across all its plane lines. Additionally, the company also could lose thousands of Machinists and engineers to retirement over the coming decade.
