Wife, son allegedly beat man with bat

LYNNWOOD — Police are investigating a late-night break-in and baseball bat attack that left a Lynnwood man with head injuries and fear he could lose sight in his right eye.

His estranged wife, 53, and her son, 36, were arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail on Tuesday for investigation of burglary, assault and robbery.

A judge Wednesday set bail at $100,000 for each suspect.

Lynnwood police believe someone broke into the man’s home through an crawl space that led to an office inside the residence on the 5500 block of Firwood Drive, according to court papers.

The pair denied the allegations and requested a lawyer.

Police on Monday night found a black wooden baseball bat that was covered in blood at the home. The bat had a crack in the handle that appeared to be new, police wrote in an affidavit.

They also found a jacket that was wrapped around a torque wrench, also covered in blood.

The injured man told a detective that he is in the process of divorcing his wife and had a court order denying his wife access to the residence.

The victim told police that he was in bed asleep with all the doors and windows locked when he heard a noise and started to get out of bed. He said he felt someone restrain him. Then he was struck in the head several times, according to court papers.

The man said he struggled to get out of bed and turned on the light. That’s when he said he recognized his attackers.

He said he managed to push them out of his bedroom, lock the door and call 911. His attackers were able to force open the bedroom door and continued to strike him. One of the blows broke his cell phone as he was talking with dispatchers.

He said he reached another cell phone and once again called 911. His attackers fled.

The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he received several stitches and staples to close his head wounds. He told police that doctors said he could lose sight in his right eye. His injured eye was covered with a protective patch.
