LYNNWOOD — Neighbors in Alderwood Manor still don’t know why a woman was found at her home dead Saturday.
The death is being called suspicious, and there is evidence that it could be a homicide, Snohomish County sheriff’s Lt. Robert Palmer said.
Investigators have identified a person of interest, but Palmer couldn’t say much more Monday.
There is no safety threat to the public in connection with the case, he said.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the death but is waiting to confirm the woman’s identity before releasing any more information, a spokeswoman said Monday. They also will have to notify next of kin.
Deputies went to check on the woman about 1 p.m. Saturday after she failed to show up for work.
The home is on the 1700 block of 215th Street SW, a dead-end street off Cypress Way.
Additional details about why the death was considered suspicious were not available Monday. The major crimes unit is investigating, police said.
On Sunday, only a few hours after police had left the home, the neighborhood looked like it would on a sunny spring afternoon, with some people playing badminton and others doing yard work or washing cars.
For almost 24 hours before that, the neighborhood had been swarming with sheriff’s deputies.
Pat Elder has lived in the neighborhood since it was built in the early 1960s.
She didn’t know her neighbor very well, she said. The neighbor drove a Jeep, which remained parked in the driveway Sunday.
“We always smiled and waved at each other,” she said.
Elder said her daughter heard a noise about 1 a.m. Saturday.
“She heard just screaming, real loud, a (blood)curdling scream …,” she said.
