Legislature OKs WSU on EvCC campus
OLYMPIA -- The Legislature got on board Thursday with the plan to provide Washington State University a permanent presence in Everett.
On a 38-10 vote, the state Senate gave final approval to a bill enabling WSU to move onto the Everett Community College campus in order to run the University Center of North Puget Sound. Today, that collaborative is managed by EvCC.
Under Senate Bill 5636, the transfer of power would occur in July 2014 if WSU completes a series of tasks that include writing a plan to operate the center. That plan must be approved by the state Higher Education Coordinating Board. WSU also must begin offering engineering classes at the center before the transfer date.
Gov. Chris Gregoire is expected to sign the bill.
