EVERETT — A woman who was seriously injured when her car was struck by a train last week apparently drove around the crossing gates and onto the tracks intentionally, causing the wreck, police said.
The night of May 26, the woman was in a Lexus crossing the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks near the intersection of S. First Avenue and Lenora Street, off Lowell Snohomish River Road in Everett.
Witnesses told police that it appeared that the woman intentionally drove around other cars and the crossing gates to get on the tracks, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said. Witnesses said she stopped on the tracks.
The Lexus was struck by a southbound Amtrak train that was on its way to Chicago. No one aboard the train was injured.
The woman was still at a Seattle hospital Thursday. Her condition was not available.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, Goetz said.
