Merchants outlast Laces in 9-6 slugfest

EVERETT-- Nate Mullins (Everett Community College) hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and finished with four RBI to help the Everett Merchants defeat the Laces Baseball Academy 9-6 Friday night in a non-league game at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Matt Cooper (2-0) pitched five scoreless innings for Everett (14-5) to earn the win.

Kevin Owens, an Everett CC grad and current assistant coach at the school, hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning for Laces (20-6).
