EVERETT–It took them 11 innings, but the Everett Merchants came out with a 3-2 win Sunday evening against the Langley Blaze at Everett Memorial Stadium in the first game of its doubleheader. Everett followed with a more decisive 12-3 victory in the second game.
Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 11th of the first game, Ty Holm’s game-winning double to the gap in left field scored Alex Reynolds from second, who was on base after hitting his own double in the prior at-bat. Everett starting pitcher Matt Cooper struck out seven batters and walked another in eight innings. Reliever Ryan Leahy, from Gonzaga, entered the game in the ninth inning and didn’t give up any hits or runs to the nine batters he faced.
In the nightcap, led by first basemen Karsten Streiby’s three RBI, Everett put together a string of 11 runs in two innings, with a six-run third inning and a five-run fourth. Pitcher Skye Adams had the win for the Merchants, who are now 14-3 in the PIL and 20-9 overall.
