MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Community Food Bank wasn’t out of a lawn mower for long.
Someone broke into a storage shed at the bank in July and stole the mower, a leaf blower and a couple of gasoline cans.
On Monday, bank director Dell Deierling got some good news.
Quanah Blaine, store manager at The Home Depot on Quil Ceda Boulevard, asked him to come on over.
Blaine has a soft spot for food banks, he said. He used to run The Home Depot in Snohomish and helped remodel a food bank’s kitchen in that town.
Blaine wanted to help. His store pitched in a new Honda lawn mower, a leaf blower and gas cans.
“He grabbed a shopping cart, and he said, ‘Let’s go,'” Deierling said. “It was like winning the lottery for the food bank.”
Blaine also took Deierling through the home security aisle, where they picked out equipment to make a new super-strong lock for the shed.
The burglary was discovered by a neighbor on July 28. Deierling estimated the stolen items were worth $500.
The food bank has been hit with crime before, Deierling said. Taggers have targeted the food bank’s truck, and thieves even stole some flower pots.
The donations from The Home Depot, along with other offers to help from the community, were reassuring, Deierling said.
“It just really made me realize that the good outweighs the bad,” he said. “The good wins.”
