Seattle’s historic Neptune Theatre celebrates restoration with week of free events
SEATTLE -- The 90-year-old Neptune Theatre has been transformed from a dingy old single-screen movie theater to a glistening, versatile performing hall.
Much of the building's original luster has been restored, including the glowing eyes of Neptune in wall sconces. Fabulous stained glass images of Neptune and his trident shine again.
The Seattle Theatre Group acquired the building earlier this year. They've redone the main seating area, installed new lights and sound, and bumped up the concessions.
To celebrate the grand opening, they're offering a week of "Anchors Aweigh," free events that begin Sunday night with the cult classic, "A Rocky Horror Picture Show."
Monday night the laughs increase with a Comedy Cavalcade, hosted by local personality Luke Burbank and starring Jon Keister, Rylee Newton, the Ashley Judd Comedy Hour and short films by Mike Drucker Adventure Buddies.
Seattle Voices on Tuesday include pre-show maritime music performed by William Pint & Felicia Dale. The Total Experience Gospel Choir, led by Pastor Patrinell Wright will pump up the spirit and rap artists Critical and EriAm Sisters bring down the night.
A Salsa & Hip Hop Dance Party is planned for Wednesday featuring a salsa class led by Vanessa Villalobos and Christian Paquin with the salsa band Sonora La Rebelion, followed by a Hip Hop lesson led by choreographer Daniel Cruz with music by DJ WD4D.
The week of free performances concludes with Acoustic Night on Sept. 29. Hear live performances by Bobby Long, Grant Olsen and Mads Jacobsen.
All performances start at 7:30 p.m. and the doors open an hour in advance.
