Leavenworth’s annual festival celebrating Oktoberfest begins today and continues on the next two Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 7 and 8, and Oct. 14 and 15.
The town pays homage to its Bavarian heritage with lots of entertainment, food and fun, all themed after a weekend in Munich, an ode to Germany.
Each Saturday Leavenworth’s mayor ceremoniously taps a keg, opening the flood gates to allow the beer to flow. A procession brings the mayor and other dignitaries down Front Street.
It’s not all boozy entertainment. Kinderplatz is a place for children to play.
Admission to the fair is $10 on Friday nights and $15 on Saturdays if booked in advance, but you’ll pay $20 at the gate.

Leavenworth is about a two-hour drive from Everett along U.S. 2 over Stevens Pass.
