PORT ANGELES — A 15-year-old male hiker who was injured during a fall in the Olympic National Park has been rescued and airlifted to Port Angeles.
Park spokeswoman Barb Maynes says the teen from Sequim suffered leg injuries when he fell about 150 feet down a rock slide Sunday afternoon while hiking a trail on the north side of Lake Crescent. Park rangers and others reached the teen and his father Sunday night but steep terrain and bad weather prevented a rescue in the dark.
On Monday afternoon, a Coast Guard helicopter crew was able to fly during a break between storms to reach the hiker and hoist him out of the area.
Clallam County Search &Rescue assisted in the rescue.
