Crash on Highway 530 kills two, including a boy
OSO — A head-on crash on Highway 530 on Saturday killed two people from Concrete, including a 12-year-old boy.
The crash happened just after 10 a.m. at Whitman Road.
Washington State Patrol troopers and firefighters summoned to the crash site found two mangled pickup trucks. One of the drivers and his passenger didn't survive.
According to information released Saturday by troopers, a 1990 Toyota pickup was westbound on the highway when the driver attempted to make a left hand turn. The driver reportedly turned in front of an oncoming 1990 Ford F350, investigators said.
The two pickups collided head-on and were heavily damaged.
The Toyota's driver, John H. Jones, 60, died at the scene. His passenger, Dakota Robertson, 12, also was killed in the crash.
The other pickup driver, a 29-year-old Arlington man, was injured. Medical personnel transported him to Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington.
Troopers shut down both directions of the highway for about four hours while they collected evidence, took measurements and cleared the wrecked pickups. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol played a part in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
