SEATTLE — A fresh coat of snow has blanketed the Cascades, giving skiers a reason to cheer heading into the new year.
A storm moved through the Northwest on Friday, bringing some rain and wind to the lowlands but several inches of snow to the mountains. Crystal Mountain ski resort reported 22 inches of new snow through Saturday afternoon, while White Pass had about 21 inches and Stevens Pass had about 27.
Even the lower elevation passes picked up some powder as Snoqualmie Summit said they’ve got 15 inches of new snow over two days. The dump was enough to shut down traffic on I-90 east for several hours Friday evening.
