Lynnwood police officer Chris Breault has been named the “Drug Recognition Expert” of the year for Snohomish, Island and Whatcom counties.

The department estimates that Breault removed 195 impaired drivers from the street in 2011.

Breault is one of four certified Drug Recognition Experts in Lynnwood, officials said. “DRE” is police-talk for an officer who is specially trained to recognize signs of alcohol and drug impairment in drivers.
