Motorcycle rider dies, passenger injured in Whibdey Island accident

WHIDBEY ISLAND -- A man died and his 55-year-old wife suffered life-threatening injuries after their motorcycle was hit by a pickup truck late Sunday morning.

The couple was behind a pickup truck southbound on Highway 525, when they were hit by a Ford pickup truck going northbound that was attempting to turn left onto Admiral Drive near Keystone, said Trooper Keith Leary with the Washington State Patrol.

The woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The man was declared dead at the scene, Leary said.

No criminal charges are expected. however, the driver could face an infraction for failing to yield, Leary said.

No other details of the victims or the truck's driver were available Sunday afternoon.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be a factor, Leary said.

Motorcycle and other vehicle drivers need to be careful on the roads and watch out for one another, Leary said.
