'Amazing, deep powder' draws crowds of skiers to Stevens Pass
As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, about 3,000 people had trekked to Stevens Pass Mountain Resort to hit the slopes for what officials there were calling "amazing, deep powder" snow.
The attendance was three times more skiers and snow boarders than a typical wintery Wednesday, said Nate Escalona, a spokesman for the resort.
The resort saw about 16 inches of new snow overnight, making for mouth-watering skiing conditions for outdoor enthusiasts.
With the majority of school districts around Puget Sound closed, there were likely many families who chose to take advantage of the snow day and head up for some skiing, Escalona said.
Although the snowfall was expected to taper off, the pass was expected to get a few more inches of new snow overnight.
