Lynnwood sophomore guard Grace Douglas made two free throws with 23 seconds remaining in the game to seal the Royals’ 54-51 victory over Glacier Peak in a Wesco 3A girls basketball game on Jan. 25 at Lynnwood High School.
Glacier Peak’s Taylor Rasmussen missed a 3-point shot at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime.
Glacier Peak led by five at the half. But Lynnwood held the Grizzlies scoreless for more than seven minutes – and without a field goal for the entire period – in the third quarter. Glacier Peak made four free throws in the final minute as Lynnwood took a 40-31 lead.
“We just pressured them in that third quarter with a mix of full- and half-court press,” said Lynnwood coach Everett Edwards.
Coach Edwards also complimented the play of Royals junior post Linda Wilson and senior guard Meghan Cross.
“(Cross) got us off to a great start with seven points in the first, and Linda (Wilson) had a great game with 14 points and eight rebounds,” Edwards said.
Lynnwood, Edwards said, has struggled at the free-throw for most of the season, but the Royals made all 9 of their attempts Wednesday night.
Glacier Peak was led in scoring by senior guard Torrey Hill, who scored 18 points.
