Pimp my ride

Pimp my ride

We’ll take 12 Folldal bed frames: The Boeing Co. delivered its first 747-8 Intercontinental passenger jet Tuesday, not to an airline, but to an unnamed “VIP customer,” possibly the government of Qatar. While flight-worthy, the plane’s interior is unfinished.

So before flying on to the Middle East, the plane was expected to make a stop at Ikea and ReclinerLand.

Well, that’s a relief: The Dow Jones industrial average closed above 13,000 for the first time since May 2008, sending investment bankers into fits of giddiness. Said one: “What this number implies is that the financial crisis that we were all losing sleep over, it never happened, because now we’re back.”

The news that the Great Recession never happened was of immediate relief to millions of Americans who lost their jobs or their homes or both. They then celebrated with a dinner of Top Ramen and Diet Coke.

Don’t know much about history: On this day in 1940, “Gone With the Wind” won eight Academy Awards, including best picture of 1939.

Billy Crystal, hosting the Oscars for the first time, appeared in Scarlet O’Hara’s dress and proclaimed, “As God is my witness, I’ll never go to an after-party stag again,” and mugged for applause.
