McKenna to attend Romney fundraiser as GOP presidential hopeful adds public event in Bellevue

Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob McKenna will attend a Thursday night fund raiser for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney. But the appearance should not be viewed as an endorsement.

That's the word from McKenna's campaign spokesman Charles McCray III.

Romney supporters invited the attorney general to the event at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue and he accepted the invitation, McCray explained Wednesday.

"He looks forward to meeting with them there to discuss his campaign's progress and how we can keep the momentum going," McCray wrote in an email, adding McKenna does not have a speaking role

It is not a cheap event as Romney looks to restock his depleted campaign coffers. Tickets are $1,000 per person, $2,500 if you want to get a photo with the former Massachusetts governor.

McKenna's appearance is worth noting because he's made a point of not endorsing anyone before the caucuses and not wanting to appear to be taking sides in the contested primary.

He has skipped campaign events put on by Rick Santorum, Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich during their respective visits to Washington in February.

Meanwhile, Romney has scheduled a free public event in Bellevue early Friday morning.

He will host a 'Meet and Greet" at 8 a.m. at the Highland Community Center at 14224 Bel-Red Road.
