Beginning with the 2012 congressional election, Washington gets a 10th member of the House of Representatives, and the boundaries of the existing nine districts have been redrawn — in some cases radically changing their geopolitics. One of the more interesting examples is the new 1st District, the territory for which spans remote mountain wilderness, flat farmland, struggling small towns and worldly affluent Seattle suburbs.
