Seattle landmark P-I globe to be preserved
The Hearst Corp., the city of Seattle and the Museum of History and Industry announced an agreement Wednesday to restore and preserve the 19-foot tall, neon-lit orb that has been spinning since 1948.
The seattlepi.com reported that the city's Landmarks Preservation Board is expected to make the globe an official landmark April 18. Hearst is expected to donate the globe to the museum.
The museum is launching a campaign to raise about $400,000 to removed and restore the globe while the public helps decide where it will be placed.
The P-I stopped printing in 2009.
