Granite Falls: Horse camp holds essay contest
Horse Country Farm’s annual horse essay contest is back.
First- through ninth-grade students can submit essays by March 22 explaining “I love horses because,” “I want to come to horse camp because,” or “I want to be a camp counselor because.” Horse Country Farm is located at 8507 Highway 92.

Lake Stevens: Scholarship offered
The Alpha Alpha Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, International Honorary Organization for Women Educators, is offering a scholarship for high school students.
The $1,000 scholarship is offered annually by Alpha Alpha members and is for students from the Lake Stevens and Snohomish school districts. Students with junior or senior status by this fall and who are involved with programs that prepare them for a career as a teacher at an accredited college in the state may apply.

Mukilteo: Weigh in on downtown
The Mukilteo City Council plans a public hearing at 7 p.m. March 19 in the City Hall Council Chambers, 11930 Cyrus Way.
At the hearing, the public may comment on proposed changes to a Downtown Business District plan that include design and density changes.

Snohomish: City launches blog
As a way to interact more with residents and potential visitors, the city started a new blog called “Experience Snohomish” earlier this month.
The blog, at experience snohomish.wordpress.com, aims to spread local news, events and information faster and more efficiently. It can also be used to provide updates in cases of emergency such as floods.
The blog is another social media tool the city is using besides the its website, Facebook page and a weekly electronic newsletter.
