Schools compete in mock trial program
Teams from Archbishop Murphy, Henry M. Jackson and Stillaguamish Valley high schools participated in the District High School Mock Trial Competition.
The event was Feb. 8 to 11 at the Snohomish County Courthouse and Denney Juvenile Justice Center in Everett.
The varsity team from Archbishop Murphy won first place in the district competition and will go on to compete at the state championships scheduled Friday through Sunday at the Thurston County Courthouse in Olympia.
Grant Follis of Jackson High School earned a Best Attorney award.
The High School Mock Trials are a program of YMCA Youth &Government.
EvCC vice president wins national award
Everett Community College Vice President Christine Kerlin recently received an award from the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.
One person every year is recognized with the Achieving Professional Excellence Award for Student Success award. The honor includes a $5,000 donation made in Kerlin’s name to the Everett Community College Foundation scholarship fund.
Kerlin has worked at Everett Community College since 1996 and has served in various roles including director of registration and admissions, associate dean of enrollment services and vice president of enrollment management.
Kerlin will be recognized at the association’s annual meeting in Philadelphia in April.
