GRANITE FALLS — No injuries were reported after a large fire broke out underneath a bridge near Granite Falls on Monday.
The fire originally was reported as an explosion, but investigators didn’t find evidence of that, said Jim Haverfield, fire chief with Snohomish County Fire District 17 in Granite Falls.
The fire was reported about 11:10 a.m. in the 8700 block of Robe Menzel Road, south of town.
That area has had trouble with people camping there, which is how the fire is believed to have started, Haverfield said.
No one was there when firefighters arrived, the chief said.
Officials on Monday were evaluating the concrete bridge, but there didn’t appear to be significant damage from the fire.
