Free classes will teach kids about fitness, healthy eating habits

Al Yenkevich wants to remind kids and parents that fitness can be fun.
Yenkevich, a "boot camp" instructor and personal trainer, plans on using basketball, jump rope, hula hoops and an agility course to help kids get on the path to fitness.
He has started a nonprofit called Make a Change Fitness to do just that: hold fitness classes to teach kids how to exercise properly and make healthier eating choices.
The first class is set for 10 a.m. March 31 at Beautiful Savior Hall, 12810 35th Ave. SE, Everett. The class is free; donations will be accepted.
Yenkevich with his team from the nonprofit group will lead the kids in this hour-long class where fitness is emphasized along with having fun.
The class finishes up with tips on eating right and the benefits of good nutrition.
Classes will be held throughout the year with the goal of having 30 to 50 kids participate at the start. Once summer hits, classes will be held outside, Yenkevich said.
Yenkevich runs adult boot camps through Total Sweat Fitness. He is a certified personal trainer with more than 15 years of experience in the field.
