EDMONDS -- Police here said they caught a suspected burglar Friday as he searched some bushes where a shotgun and other stolen property had been stashed near a recent home break-in.

Officers had responded to a call from a house on the 7500 block of 212th Street SW at 9:14 a.m. to find the rear door pried open, but no burglar in sight, Edmonds police Sgt. Mike Blackburn said. Talking to neighbors, police discovered some of the homeowner's property hidden behind a nearby business.

Police kept watch in the area until a man showed up about an hour later, frantically rummaging through the bushes where the 12-gauge shotgun and other property had been, Blackburn said. The 50-year-old from Lake Stevens was jailed for investigation of residential burglary and narcotics possession.

Police said that when detained, the man was wearing a coat taken from the home.
