Former Glacier Peak girls basketball standout Marjorie Heard has been granted her request to leave the University of Washington women’s basketball team, announced the UW on Tuesday.
Heard sat out most of the past season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. She played in all 28 games, including 12 starts, while averaging 7.3 ppg in her freshman season and was named an honorable mention selection to the All-Pac-10 freshman team.
“I want to thank Marjie for her contributions to our program, and I wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors,” UW head coach Kevin McGuff said.
Heard will be required to sit out the 2012-13 season because of NCAA transfer rules, and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to play at Washington,” Heard said. “But things change, and I’m looking for an opportunity to play basketball at another school. I’m fortunate to have had the experience here, and I wish the program nothing but the best.”
