UW men to play UConn next season
The University of Washington men's basketball program announced Wednesday that it will play Connecticut in a home-and-home series beginning with a UW road game this December. The Dec. 29 game will either be held on the UConn campus in Storrs, Conn., or at the nearby XL Center in Hartford, Conn.
The following year, the teams will play in Seattle.
"We are excited to begin this home-and-home series," UW coach Lorenzo Romar said in a statement. "It's consistent with our non-conference scheduling philosophy to play several high-profile basketball teams each year."
The Huskies and Huskies played in the 1998 NCAA tournament and again in 2006. UConn won both games, which were Sweet 16 contests that included some of the more memorable finishes in UW tourney history. UConn's Richard Hamilton scored a put-back at the buzzer in the 1998 meeting, a 75-74 UW loss. In the 2006 Sweet 16, Rashad Anderson hit a score-tying 3-point shot for Connecticut with 1.8 seconds left before the "other" Huskies went on to beat UW in overtime. Both years, UConn lost its next game.
