TACOMA — The Pierce County prosecutor says a Tacoma police officer was justified in fatally shooting a young man who was backing a stolen car toward the officer.
Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said Tuesday that Officer Brett Beall acted within the law in November when he opened fire on a car driven by Austin Joseph Welling, 18. The stolen car then crashed into Beall’s patrol car.
The News Tribune reports Welling was wanted on arrest warrants charging him with robbery and unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle.
