Washington Stealth forward Rhys Duch was named the National Lacrosse League Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Stealth’s 16-13 loss to Toronto last Friday.
Duch tied season highs with four goals and six assists in the loss to earn player of the week honors for the second time this season.
Calgary’s Frankie Scigliano was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week for stopping 38 of 44 shots he faced as the Roughnecks defeated Edmonton 9-6 on Saturday.
Buffalo’s Mark Steenhuis earned Transition Player of the Week for his four goal and four assist effort in the Bandits 14-9 victory over Rochester on Saturday and Minnesota’s Jay Card was named the Rookie of the Week for scoring a goal and dishing three assists in Saturday’s 15-10 victory over Philadelphia.
Here are the this week’s NLL power rankings:
1. Calgary Roughnecks (12-4), The Roughnecks trailed the Colorado Mammoth for most of the season in the West Division, but finished the season on a strong note to earn the West’s top seed in the playoffs.
2. Colorado Mammoth (11-4), The Mammoth and the Roughnecks are still the cream of the crop in the NLL this season, but Colorado failed in its opportunity to stay on top in the West, falling last weekend to Edmonton 14-9.
3. Toronto Rock (8-7), With last Friday’s victory over the Washington Stealth, the Rock have the inside track on the East Division championship.
4. Minnesota Swarm (8-7), A convincing victory over the Philadelphia Wings last weekend locked up the No. 3 seed in the West for the Swarm.
5. Philadelphia Wings (7-8), The Wings have struggled in the second half of the season, but still have an opportunity at the East Division championship going into the final weekend of the regular season.
6. Buffalo Bandits (6-9), With a five-goal win over Rochester last Saturday, the Bandits clinched a playoff spot and avoided an all-or-nothing game with the Washington Stealth this Saturday at Comcast Arena.
7. Edmonton Rush (6-9), The Rush have been playing much better in the second half of the season and could be a sleeper team to make some noise in the playoffs, but beating Calgary in the first round on the road will be no easy task.
8. Rochester Knighthawks (6-9), The Knighthawks are struggling, but in a very equal East Division could still make some noise in the postseason.
9. Washington Stealth (4-11), It’s official, the Stealth are the only team in the nine-team NLL to fail to make the postseason.
