Arlington: Relay for Life set for Sunday
The next Arlington Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society is Sunday afternoon at Byrnes Performing Arts Center.
Bruce Meyers' award- winning comedy and magic show takes the stage at 3 p.m. at 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd. U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen, who grew up in Arlington, also plans to speak and participate in the magic show.
Admission is $10. Tickets are available at Arlington Copy, Mail & More, Eagle Family Dental, Flowers by George, at the door before the performance or by calling 425-387-5180.
Everett: Childhood mental illness talk
Parents, caregivers and families can learn to better cope with their child or adolescent's mental illness, including the trauma often accompanying the illness, during an event from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. May 9. Dr. Nawar Alnaquib will discuss the management of behavior disorders in children and adolescents.
The event, sponsored by the Snohomish County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, will be in the Everett Public Library's auditorium, 2702 Hoyt Ave.

Mukilteo: Gulch work party planned
A work party for improving trails in Japanese Gulch plans to meet on Sunday.
The gathering is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. starting at the parking lot entrance to the gulch off Fifth Street in Mukilteo.
It is suggested that participants bring large, sturdy metal rakes, along with shovels, hoes and hatchets or machetes. Some tools will be provided.

Tulalip: Swap meet opens Saturday
The Boom City Swap Meet is set to open for a second season on Saturday.
The swap meet is scheduled to include a variety of merchandise including hand-made crafts, food and pony rides. The Boom City Swap Meet's hours are set from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through early September. The swap meet will be closed from June 4 to July 13 when Boom City Fireworks stands are open.
Admission to the swap meet at 10300 27th Ave. NE is $1 per person with a maximum $3 per vehicle. Vendors will be charged $20 to rent a space.

County: Disaster planning topic of talk
Snohomish County has planned an event at Everett Community College on May 11 to help people plan for disasters. It's free and open to the public, though people are asked to RSVP by the end of today.
There's a roundtable scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by a preparedness class from 2 to 4 p.m. The goal is to provide useful information to a cross-section of citizens, emergency management professionals, business people and government leaders.
The location is the community college's fitness center, at the corner of Tower Street and Waverly Avenue. To RSVP, email Dara Salmon at dara.salmon@snoco.org.
