Economic Alliance Snohomish County will recognize five local residents with business and service awards at its annual meeting May 16 in Lynnwood.
The alliance meeting also will feature a keynote address by Kim Pastega, general manager of the Boeing Co.'s 767 program. The meeting is open to the public but costs $60 to attend. It will take place at the Lynnwood Convention Center, 3711 196th St. SW, Lynnwood.
The alliance will present Tom Gaffney, formerly of Moss Adams, with the 2012 Henry M. Jackson Citizen of the Year Award. Established in 1977, the award honors someone who demonstrates exemplary service to the community and is committed to the business interests of the region.
A retired partner of Moss Adams, Gaffney has more than 40 years of auditing and tax experience and recently has spent most of his time consulting. Gaffney has served on a number of Snohomish County business boards, including Providence Regional Medical Center, EverTrust Bank, Everett Community College, Everett Public Facilities and the former Snohomish County Economic Development Council.
Mike and Wendy Nelson Popke of Lynnwood Honda are the recipients of the John M. Fluke Sr. Service Award for outstanding service to the South Snohomish County community. The community service award was established in 1970. The Popkes will be recognized for their leadership in the county and for dedication to the local community and to driving economic development.
In November, the dealership made a donation toward the Swedish-Edmonds Car Seat Program for every car sold at Lynnwood Honda. Their efforts raised $7,500, which will provide 100 car seats for young families in need.
Also at the May 16 meeting, The Herald Business Journal will present its Executive of the Year award to Mark Duffy, president of Mountain Pacific Bank. The Journal will also present the Entrepreneur of the Year Award to Jonathan Holbrook, founder and director of Tall Taurus Media.
