Volunteers of America need help sorting out food donations received through the annual Letter Carriers Food Drive on this Saturday.
Anyone interested need to sign up through the Volunteers of America of Western Washington website at www.voaww.org/lettercarriers.
This drive helps local food banks by sending yellow bags to people’s mail on May 9. The bags can then be fill with donations to be picked up Saturday and delivered to distribution centers in Edmonds, Everett and Lynnwood.
The Food Drive is a national event. It is organized in Snohomish County by National Association of Letter Carriers Local 791, the Volunteers of America of Western Washington, United Way of Snohomish County and the Snohomish County Labor Council.
Camano animal shelter benefit: The Camano Animal Shelter Association is sponsoring a bake and plant sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Camano Multi-Purpose Center, 141 E. Camano Drive.
People can also buy food and beverages. All proceeds benefit the animal shelter. For more information, visit www.camanoanimalshelter.com.
Camano veterans: Camano Island’s Freedom Park Association is seeking the names of men and women who served in the Army, Navy or Marine Corps in 1917 and 1918.
At Independence Day celebration at the park on July 4, the association plans to remember those who served in World War I.
The group has about 30 names of those who served from the Stanwood area. People who know of those who served in the first world war from Camano Island are asked to bring forward names, ranks, branches of service and areas of service.
