Take Mom for a free cruise Saturday on historic boats
And the price is right: free.
The 11th annual Mother's Day Sail is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Cama Beach State Park, 1880 SW Camano Drive, Camano Island. The event is sponsored by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and The Center for Wooden Boats.
Historic vessels are parked offshore on their way through Saratoga Passage. To get to the historic ships, Mom and her crew will go aboard a powered livery boat for transport to the waiting vessels.
A few of this year's visiting vessels include:
The Lavengro: A Biloxi-style schooner, similar to the shrimp and oyster schooners of Back Bay, Biloxi, used in the early 1900s.
The Admirable: The vessel is the last known Bristol Bay gillnetter still in operation.
The Isswatt: A tugboat originally built in 1948 for salmon trolling.
The Patience: A Grand Banks dory built originally in Olympia.
There are also plenty of land-locked family activities including making nautical-themed greeting cards or using traditional hand tools to make toy wooden boats.
Other entertainment includes live music and interpretive programs.
The Discover Pass is required for this event. Parking is limited at Cama Beach State Park so carpooling is recommended. For more information, call The Center for Wooden Boats at 360-387-9361 or email email@example.com.
Go fishing: Children ages 5 to 14 years old can learn to fish from the experts Saturday at Thornton A. Sullivan Park.

There will be eight 45-minute instruction sessions and then time to just fish. Bring your gear if you have it. There will be some fishing gear to borrow.
