Q: How does your typical day go?
A: I get up at 6 in the morning to make sure there’s no homework I forgot to do. I get to school at 7 a.m. I like having extra time in the morning.
I have band practice at 7:50 a.m.
During track season, I left school at 4:30 p.m. I leave now at 2:40 p.m. and I work at the movie theater from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m.
Q: Why are you working at the movie theater?
A: I am trying to save money for college and pay for car parts. The goal is to have some financial security.
Q: What are your plans for after high school?
A: I am planning to attend Washington State University. I am either studying architecture or business. I’m not sure yet.
My long-term goal is to get a degree in business, then go to an auto technical school so I can open up a car shop.
Q: Tell me more about your car.
A: It’s a 2001 Mustang GT. I bought it this past June. My parents gave me a loan, so I have to pay them back. That has taught me the importance of taking care of things. All the money I earn goes to the car.
Q: Do you do a lot of work on your car?
A: I try to do some work at least once a week. It’s a new car so there’s no need for repairs. I upgraded the performance to make the engine more powerful.
Mostly every two weeks I wash it. I’m mostly interested in making it a race car. I hope to drag race at the fairgrounds this summer. My parents said I can if I learn to autocross. Then I can go race.
Q: I have been told you have a musical background.
A: I have been in band since fifth grade. I have been playing trumpet ever since. In my junior year I applied for drum major. The responsibilities are to conduct and be a leader of the band.
The conducting is the hard part. I felt pressure at first, but then it was like second nature. You kind of feel the music.
Also, I’m not in a band, but I play the guitar just for fun.
