MUKILTEO — Two people and a dog were rescued from a sinking sailboat near Mukilteo late Thursday.
The 24-foot boat was about a mile northwest of the Mukilteo ferry dock when it started taking on water around 11:20 p.m., said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1. The U.S. Coast Guard received a distress call.
The man and woman, who appeared to be in their 20s, were cold and wet but not injured when crews reached them, Hynes said. The dog also was not injured.
The firefighters tried to tow the boat to the Port of Everett marina, but it was taking on more water than their pump could handle, Hynes said. The boat later sank.
The U.S. Coast Guard also was involved in the rescue operation.
