EVERETT -- The Everett Police Department is looking for help in catching the suspect in an armed robbery.

The holdup occurred around 9 a.m. Wednesday when a man armed with a handgun robbed the Smoke Shack in the 1000 block of Broadway in north Everett, according to police reports.

The clerk complied when the suspect demanded money, but the man took the cash out of the register himself, Everett police officer Aaron Snell said. The man also grabbed several lottery tickets before running from the store.

An Everett police dog attempted to track the suspect but the scent ended nearby, Snell said.

The robber is described as a thin white man who's about 5 feet, 7 inches tall.

At the time of the holdup he was wearing a black leather jacket, light gray hooded sweatshirt, faded blue jeans, white shoes and a mask concealing his face.

Hawthorne Elementary School was placed in lockdown shortly after the robbery.

Anyone with information about the robbery can call the Everett Police Department tip line at 425-257-8450.
