Pacifica artistic director promises ‘exquisite’ finale

Artistic director Fred Chu is issuing this warning: The season finale concert of Pacifica Chamber Orchestra will be “eye-popping, jaw-dropping and ear-pleasing.”

Sunday’s Summer Concert presents some “very exquisite” selections as well, Chu said.

“This is a concert full of color and passion,” said Chu, who also conducts the orchestra.

“I am really looking forward to it not only because we have such a beautiful selection of music but also the magnitude of each individual musician’s performance caliber.

“If I am not wrong, this type of concert has never been done here in Snohomish County.”

Pieces from Aaron Copland, Schoenberg and Dvorak are sure to sparkle like a summer sunset, Chu said.

Copland’s “Appalachian Spring” will be played in its original form, which is a composition for 13 instruments.

“All the notes are there, just crisper and more transparent when performed by a chamber orchestra,” Chu said.

Chu called Schoenberg’s “Kammer Symphonie” a “heroic work” for 15 solo instruments.

“The music washes over the listener and fills the hall,” Chu said.

Also on the program are two Waltzes by Dvorak and “Lyric Andante” by Reger.

“You are in for some very exquisite and engaging musical selections,” Chu said.

Pacifica Chamber Orchestra Summer Concert will be presented at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Cburch, 2936 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

Tickets are $10 and $15. Call 425-743-0255 or online at www.brownpapertickets.com or at the door.

Pacifica Chamber Orchestra’s third season has been announced, and Chu said he has selected an amazing array of musical pieces.

Tickets are on sale now. For more information about the new season go to www.pacificachamberorchestra.org.
