This is family fun with an educational twist as the World Oceans Day Festival celebrates our waterways with beach walks and crafts along with guest speakers to talk about this fragile ecosystem.
There will also be more than 30 educational booths, live music and an in-water fire rescue boat demonstration.
This third annual CamOcean — World Oceans Day Festival will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Cama Beach State Park, 1880 SW Camano Drive, Camano Island.
Admission is free, but parking on site is $10 a day or free with a state parks Discovery Pass. Catch a free shuttle two miles north at Camano Chapel, 867 SW Camano Drive.
The festival has something for every member of the family with guided, low-tide beach and nature walks; storytelling, crafts and games for younger guests; discounted boat and kayak rentals; raffles; and speakers for older visitors.
Guest speakers include John F. Williams from Still Hope Productions to talk about “The InvisibleShoreline”; Bill Dewey from Taylor Shellfish to talk about West Coast shellfish farming; Adam Lorio to talk about “The Magic of Tides”; David Bain with Cascadia Environmental Science Center to talk on “The Endangered Whales of Puget Sound”; and Barb Roy, a photojournalist who will present “Exploring Our World’s Oceans.”
Live music will be provided by the The Home Grown Tomatoes and the Cajun Redhots.
