WNBA Power Rankings

1. Minnesota Lynx (11-1), The Lynx weren’t going to go through the season undefeated, just like the Seattle Storm were going to go through the season awful. Both things gave way on Sunday when the Storm handed the Lynx their first loss of the season.

2. Los Angeles Sparks (9-3), The Sparks continue to be one of the elite teams in the league. I almost put Connecticut in second place until they were demolished by Indiana on Thursday, giving the Sparks the edge.

3. Chicago Sky (7-2), The Sky now have the lead in the Eastern Conference by percentage points and have done it behind Sylvia Fowles and Epiphanny Prince. Prince recently went down with injury, if she misses significant time or is no at 100 percent, the Sky could fall on this list rather quickly.

4. Indiana Fever (6-4), The Fever’s record at a glance isn’t nearly as impressive as Connecticut, but after laying a 34-point beat down on the Sun on Thursday I have to give an edge to Indiana. Especially since the Fever have proven that they are a proven winner in this league.

5. Connecticut Sun (9-3), I guess getting beat by 34 points is a bad idea right before I do my weekly power rankings. Had they had the day off they would have been my second place team, instead they fall to No. 5.

6. San Antonio Silver Stars (4-4), The Silver Stars have been an average team so far, but they have been getting nice performances from Sophia Young and Becky Hammon. The Silver Stars are young, but they have the talent to make a run in the playoffs.

7. Seattle Storm (3-7), A nice jump this week for the Storm, who have won two in a row. Last Friday’s win over Tulsa, even though it was a road game, was to be expected, but Sunday’s win over previously undefeated Minnesota shows that the Storm might be back.

8. Atlanta Dream (4-7), The Dream earned a quality win over Los Angeles, but lost Angel McCoughtry to injury. It is unknown how serious of an injury McCoughtry has, but being without McCoughtry for any extended amount of time would be a big problem for Atlanta.

9. Phoenix Mercury (3-7), Playing without Diana Taurasi is a big problem for the Mercury.

10. New York Liberty (4-8), Consistency is a big deal in the WNBA and the Liberty don’t have it.

11. Washington Mystics (2-7), A nice win over Indiana, but probably more of a mirage than anything.

12. Tulsa Shock (1-10), Just like the Lynx weren’t going to go undefeated, the Shock weren’t going to go winless. They are still really bad.
