EVENTS
Neighbors in Need event: The rooftop of Lynnwood's Trinity Lutheran Church will be the site of an event by Neighbors in Need, a ministry of the church, this weekend. The event began at noon Friday and continues through 2 p.m. Sunday. The group is occupying the rooftop to raise awareness of poverty. The ministry works in partnership with United Way of Snohomish County, the Edmonds School District, the city of Lynnwood and other agencies and businesses. It provides a cold-weather shelter, Saturday morning free breakfasts, clothing, toiletries and other help. The church is at 6215 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. Navy Band Northwest Five Star Brass: A concert of patriotic music honoring U.S. military veterans and celebrating our freedoms is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2531 Hoyt Ave., Everett. Admission is free. 425-252-7660.
Jehovah's Witnesses convention: "Safeguard Your Heart" is the topic of a three-day Jehovah's Witnesses district convention beginning at 9:20 a.m. Friday at the Tacoma Dome. The convention is the first of a trio of three-day Jehovah's Witnesses events at the Tacoma Dome. The others are scheduled for Fridays through Sundays the following two weekends. Strengthening spirituality will be the focus of the programs, which include dramatic Bible readings, a play, and discussions. The aim is to enhance spiritual well-being, family life and happiness. The Puget Sound region's 175 Jehovah's Witnesses congregations support the events, which are free and open to the public. For more information, go to www.jw.org.
Freedom conference: "Freedom Through the Bible and the U.S. Constitution" is the topic of a two-day conference at Everett's Evergrace Fellowship Church. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m.-9 p.m. June 30 and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. July 1. Speakers include: John K. Eichmann, of Grace Military Ministries, on the topic "Grace is the Origin of Personal Freedom." Jonathan Meyer, Lewis County prosecuting attorney, on the topic of the First Amendment and Second Amendment. Pastor Paul Schmidbleicher, of Seattle's Evergreen Baptist Church, on the topic "Bible Basis for Personal Freedom." And Dr. Hugh Crowder, of EvanTell ministry, on the topic "Salvation is Freedom." Riverside Ecclesia Festival: "Unity for His Community," a family event featuring a picnic, face painting and other activities, is scheduled for 12:30-5:30 p.m. June 30 at Jetty Island. Admission free, parking $3. Donation and volunteers welcome. 425-923-7975.

Unity topic: "The Universe Means Everything for Good" is the title of a lesson to be presented by the Rev. Bruce Milne, a guest speaker, at 10 a.m. Sunday at Everett Unity Church of Positive Living. The talk will be about spiritual lessons Milne learned from a break-in at his home, including events following the robbery that brought new personal insights. An ordained Unity minister, Milne has a bachelor's degree in English education and a master's degree in international administration. The church is at 3231 Colby Ave., Everett. Community Worship Service: First Baptist Church of Everett hosts a Community Worship Service at 10:30 a.m. the third Friday of each month in the main worship center, 1616 Pacific Ave. Music provided by the Rev. FREE MEALS, CLOTHES
Salt of the Earth Soup Kitchen: noon Tuesdays at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2531 Hoyt Ave., Everett. Free sack lunches or hot meals served to the homeless, low-income seniors and families, and kids on the street. Volunteers, able to lift 50 pounds and use stairs, are needed to help cook, set up, serve and clean up. A box truck, the size of a U-Haul truck, is needed to pick up food for food banks.
