EVERETT -- There is still time to sign up for the annual children's soccer camp organized by the Everett Police Department.
The daytime camp includes lessons about avoiding drugs and gangs and building a stronger community, said officer Aaron Snell, department spokesman.
The Casino Road Futbol Academy has been popular in past years, serving more than 2,000 children. People volunteer to help from local schools, sports groups, churches and other community organizations.
For the first time this year, the police department also will offer a second camp in north Everett.
The Casino Road-area camp is planned from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through July 6 at Walter E. Hall Park, 1226 W. Casino Rd.
The north Everett camp is planned from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 9 through July 13 at Hawthorne Elementary School, 1110 Poplar St.
Children who participate must be between 7 and 14 years old. They will be fed breakfast and lunch during camp days, and each child gets a jersey and soccer ball.
Both camps are $20 per child and limited to the first 400 who register.
