USS Ronald Reagan sailor killed in Bremerton crash

BREMERTON -- The Washington State Patrol identified the sailor killed in a crash at Bremerton Emmanuel Meraz, 21, of Guadalupe, Calif.
The patrol said he was a passenger in a pickup truck that struck a tree early Saturday after the driver apparently fell asleep. Meraz died at the scene. The driver and another passenger were taken to hospitals.
The Navy said Meraz was a logistics specialist in the supply department of the Ronald Reagan. The aircraft carrier has been at Bremerton since January for a yearlong overhaul at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. The ship will return next year to San Diego.
Another sailor from the Reagan died in February when his car crashed into Sinclair Inlet.
