Petting zoo, Jetty Island open for summer fun

Summer really kicks into high gear for the kids this week with the opening of the petting zoo at Forest Park and the start of Jetty Island days.
Everett's Animal Farm introduces kids to goats, sheep, ducks and hens, rabbits, calves and muddy pigs and reminds us all about Snohomish County's agriculture past.
The Animal Farm is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Saturday and through Aug. 26 at Forest Park, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd., Everett.
Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
On Sunday, Everett's popular local island getaway, Jetty Island, opens for the season.
Everett's 2-mile long beach oasis supplies water, warm sand and nature trails. It's also popular with kite boarders.
Jetty Island Days officially begin with the first ferry ride to the island leaving at 10 a.m. Sunday from the 10th Street Boat Launch and Marine Park at 10th and W. Marine View Drive. Ferry boats leave seven days a week through Sept. 3.
Visitors can park for free at Marine Park from Monday through Thursday; the Port of Everett charges a $3 parking fee on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Parking machines will accept credit cards.
