OLYMPIA — Olympia police say the armed robber who held up a precious metals and diamond buying business was dressed as a construction worker, with a yellow hard hat, orange safety vest and a respirator that covered the face and nose.
The robber ordered a 22-year-old employee into a back room and tied him up Thursday. Police say only that the intruder took “items of value.” Sgt. Aaron Jelcick said the intruder was seen getting into the passenger side of a white Ford van and may have had an accomplice.
Police said witnesses and surveillance video indicate the suspect is stocky and appears to be 40 to 50 years old.
American Gold employee Taylor Benshoof said the robber appeared to be a man. However, detectives say another witness who talked with the suspect briefly in the parking lot thought the voice and mannerisms were those of a woman.
