Jason Kidd is Broadway-bound.
The New York Knicks came to terms with Kidd on Thursday, according to reports. ESPN reported the deal is in the neighborhood of the three-year, $9-million pact many thought the 10-time All-Star point guard seemingly had agreed upon to return to Dallas once the Mavericks’ pursuit of Deron Williams fell short.
“I think I can help,” Kidd told ESPN, adding that he believes the Knicks have more “pieces to work with.”
Kidd, 39, immediately gives the Knicks a solid option at point guard after their failed attempt to acquire Steve Nash, who is going to the Los Angeles Lakers. Kidd is a veteran leader and already has won a championship with Knicks center Tyson Chandler in 2010-11, when the two played for the Mavericks.
Kidd could be just what the Knicks need to mesh their Big Three of Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire and Chandler.
Lin Houston bound?
New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin and te Houston Rockets reportedly agreed to terms on a three-year offer sheet with a team option for a fourth year on Thursday. Lin would earn $5 million in the first year, $5.2 million in the second and $9.3 million in each of the final two seasons. Because he is a restricted free agent, the Knicks have the right to match it.
Celtics pursue Terry
BOSTON — The Boston Celtics and former Dallas Mavericks shooting guard Jason Terry reportedly agreed to a three-year deal for $15 million. Teams cannot officially sign free agents until July 11. Terry is one of the league’s top 3-point shooters.
Nelson returning to Magic
ORLANDO, Fla. — Jameer Nelson has a new deal in principle to return to the Magic. The 30-year-old Orlando point guard announced the news on his verified Twitter account Thursday, just a week after opting out of the final season and nearly $8 million of his contract to test free agency.
Batum, Wolves come to terms
MINNEAPOLIS — The agent for Portland restricted free-agent Nicolas Batum told The Associated Press that his client has reached a verbal agreement with the Timberwolves on a new deal and wants the Blazers to let him go to Minnesota.
Thabeet, Thunder ink 2-year deal
OKLAHOMA CITY — Hasheem Thabeet is getting another chance to prove himself, this time with the Western Conference champion Oklahoma City Thunder. Thabeet’s agent, Bill Duffy, confirmed Thursday that the 7-foot-3 center has agreed to a two-year guaranteed contract with the Thunder. Thabeet was the No. 2 pick in the 2009 draft by Memphis but has averaged only 2.2 points and 2.7 rebounds in limited playing time over the past three seasons with the Grizzlies, Houston and Portland.
