Pick of the Week: Neah Bay salmon, bottomfish
"Chinook fishing is going good," Ward said on Sunday. "We're seeing a lot of clipped fish, averaging 10 or 12 pounds but with a fair number in the 20-pound range."
He said the chinook are scattered, but that anglers are hitting fish right outside the harbor off the green can. Mushrom Rock, just inside Tatoosh Island, has been a productive area as well, and Ward said fishermen mooching herring just off the kelp in the Spike Rock area are boating fish, in water as shallow as 30 feet.
Trollers are working at 100 to 150 feet on the 'riggers, pulling flasher/hoochie rigs in greens or glow white.
Bottomfish limits in the area include 2 lingcod and 10 black rockfish.
