Federal grant to pay for firefighters
A federal grant will pay for the Marysville Fire District to fill three firefighter positions that were laid off in April 2011.
The $560,000 FEMA Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant will pay for the positions for two years, Fire Chief Greg Corn said.
One of the firefighters who was laid off will be rehired, but the other two have since been hired by other departments, Marysville Fire Marshal Tom Maloney said. Testing for the other two positions has been completed.
The three firefighters are expected to begin work Aug. 1.
The Lynnwood Fire Department has some staffing paid for by the same program.

Snohomish: Project will close intersection
Work to build a roundabout is scheduled to close an intersection near Lowell-Larimer Road starting Monday.
Snohomish County road engineers expect the work at 116th Street SE and 56th Avenue SE to last through Aug. 31. During that time, the intersection will be closed from the north for all through traffic. Drivers will be able to take a detour.
The project is intended to help with traffic management, and pedestrian safety. Lowering a rise in the middle of the intersection should improve sight distances.
